"Cutting Away"

I created a comic strip with 6 panels, inspired by Frida Kahlo’s “Self Portrait with Cropped Hair” painted in 1940. In Kahlo’s piece she is seen with her hair cut off, as a In this piece, Kahlo challenges societal norms and constructs a powerful statement on er identity. The short hair style symbolize challenging of societal expectations and a bold assertion of Kahlo’s independence.

To me, my hair is a big part of my identity too. Every time I’ve dye or cut my hair, my life drastically changed. Here in this comic I show my sixteen year old self back when I had blonde hair, dyeing it back to black and cutting it short, “cutting away” my old self.
